ARTIST BIO

Creating, for me, is a way to express a moment in time and connect with my ancestors, my people, and my country. I utilise this method as an outlet, a way to heal, to share my experiences, and to connect to those stories that have been woven throughout my family for many centuries.

I have been using creative arts to tell my stories from a young age. The visual look may be different from the traditional, but it is still the same storytelling. When I was around thirteen, I started experimenting and connecting with a paintbrush; through this, I created a visual representation of what was in my mind. This was a way for me to express my emotions and experiences.

Keeping our traditions alive is essential to me. My pembemgguk (children) are growing up strong within their identity and culture, surrounded by art, culture, and community. I like to paint in mostly vibrant colours to express myself. I turn to a natural palette through different seasons in my life.

Creating, for me, is a way to express a moment in time and connect with my ancestors, my people, and my country.

Connections

Acrylic on canvas
2023

"Connections is about the land we spend our time on, the people we spend our time with, and our journey along the way. Where there are connections, there is love, and love is endless.

These connections tie us to the places we call home, the friends who become family, and the experiences that shape us into who we are."
