After being snapped up at just 13 years of age by Chic Management at Girlfriend Magazine's model search, Samantha Harris has taken the Australian modelling industry by storm. Having previously modelled for Alex Perry, Ellery, Country Road, Seafolly and many more, we were honoured to work with Sam in shooting our Summer 18/19 collection.

We talk to Sam about her journey so far, her advice to her younger self and what's next.

Tell us about yourself!

My name is Samantha Harris and I am from Tweed Heads in The Gold Coast. My mums family is from Kempsey and our tribe is called Dunghutti.

You've worked with many inspiring brands & people - any highlights to date?

Every job I have ever done is absolutely a highlight to me, but my all time favourite would have to be my Vogue cover. It's any models dream to shoot for Vogue in general, let alone be on the cover. To be the second Aboriginal woman to grace the cover was a huge honour.

If you could give 15 y/o Samantha advice, what would it be?

I would tell her to never compare herself to anyone and to be the best version of herself that she could be. Do what makes you happy and believe in yourself.

What are your thoughts on people representing Indigenous culture through ethically designed clothing?

I love that Life Apparel is showcasing Indigenous designs. It's not only fashion - it's so much more. The designs are our history - a story. For the garments to be ethically designed & made makes me so happy because I feel like this is something that is overlooked so often.

Life Apparel isn't just fashion. It's so much more - the designs are our history, a story.

What challenges come with your profession?

Being away from loved ones can be a challenge but I always look at the bigger picture and appreciate the fact that I am lucky enough to be working in a job I absolutely love. Also, the early morning call times on photo shoots can be a killer sometimes haha. No one likes getting up early.

What do you hope to achieve in the next 5 years?

I hope to still be modelling, I love being a positive role model for younger girls. :)
