Introduction
Rachael Sarra’s vibrant creative practice embodies her experience as a proud mixed race, First Nations woman from Goreng Goreng Country. Driven by a belief that art and design are vital to communication, connection and culture, Rachael invites us to see the world through her eyes with bold colours and dynamic contours. Her distinct contemporary style is resonating around the world, and challenging societal perceptions of Aboriginal art and identity.
Rachael is a change-maker. She is redesigning how First Nations businesswomen navigate success while anchoring their business in culture. Building a business bigger than herself, she is committed to significant charitable donations and pro-bono work that has a tangible impact back into the community.
When values align, Rachael sees collaboration as an empowering way to foreground First Nations voices through meaningful partnerships with major brands and organisations. She has worked with high-profile clients including Tourism Australia, Kmart, Matrix, Lush Australia and UK, The Mills Foundation and Australia Post.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design from the Queensland College of Art and being awarded a Griffith University 2022 Outstanding Alumni Award, Rachael has produced significant public artworks, is an award winning children’s book illustrator and author, delivered major brand collaborations and a TEDx talk. Her work is held in corporate, public and private collections around the world. Rachael integrates her creative practice with community leadership that empowers her communities to tell their stories.

Story: Rachael draws on her heritage to produce pieces that are steeped in culture while being contemporary. She loves to create works that can become a vehicle for conversation and change by helping to connect and celebrate culture.
"Let’s work together for a shared future. To move forward and build a united Australia, we must first recognise the important role and place that our First Nation Elders play at the centre of all cultural conversations. It is through this respectful understanding that we, as First Nations people, are able to navigate the complexities of walking in two worlds and, in turn, use our voices to engage with the wider Australian community. Through this open and respectful way of communication, we will start to build momentum for change towards an equal and just future."

"Our communities are rich and diverse, linking harmoniously to each other. The spirit of our Country from the past runs through our skin and our blood, linked to the soil that we softly walk across. We celebrate our diversity as a strength, with the energy of our ancestors radiating through our land—the land that always was, always will be a part of who we are."

"The story of this artwork emphasises the importance of family and culture as a support network throughout life. Our families and cultures are diverse, but the similarities in values of respect and integrity are what unite and connect us. Our unique experiences shape who we are and our identity, represented by the symbols in the foreground. The circles as a foundation represent wellness from a holistic view—our mind, body, and spiritual health supported by family."
